Starting an E-Commerce Business - Consider which Keywords you will Use

How many web sites and web pages exist today? This great question can only be answered by stating an approximate number at a particular time of a given day. Why is this? Because each second of each day brings thousands upon thousands of new web sites and with those web sites brings multiple thousands of new web pages.

This startling fact creates a dilemma for anyone wishing to produce and publish a web site, be it for profit or merely for informational purposes. What space will your web site occupy on the World Wide Web and will anyone notice it - ever?

A quick search of some simple keywords on the powerhouse search engine Google on Sunday November 26, 2005 revealed some astonishing figures. Five searches were conducted using two keywords each. The following were the keywords used along with the number of results produced for those keywords:

• Home Business - 2,490,000,000
• Classic Books - 93,000,000
• Bike Trails - 6,360,000
• Herb Gardens - 2,290,000
• Teany Towns - 414

What do these results reveal? They reveal that the real estate space for any web site or web page that uses the keyword “Home Business” is incredibly small and anyone wanting some of this prime space will either, pay a handsome sum of money or will have to have a tremendous amount of luck, and I am not betting that luck will help.

The other point that is noticeable by just looking down the list of results is that there are not that many web pages for the search of the keywords “Teeny Town” - Eureka, we have found keywords that can be used on our site or pages and will be instantaneously noticed. Really, not so fast, how many people do you know who will think to use the keywords, “Teany Town”. Keywords such as “Teany Town” that are non-generic are typically reserved for businesses or organizations whose names are just as unique as the keywords themselves.

So where do you go from here, is there any hope? There most certainly is hope. Just like any brick and mortar business today whose constant struggles are to brand oneself as a preferred provider of products and services, so to will your struggle and hope be found in creating a branded image for your site. As your brand grows, so too will your presence on the web and with that more traffic.

The business of the World Wide Web is essentially no different than that of the old world economy we are all accustomed. We are constantly striving to be innovative, creative and of value to the customers were serve.

ASP (hosted) Shopping cart software ‘versus’ Shop in a box

Many small and medium sized businesses have found that working
through an Application Service Provider or ASP (hosted and
managed shopping cart software), removes the hassles that are
standard in managing an online store or shopping cart.
Furthermore, it is now accepted that outsourcing this function
will not only benefit a businesses bottom line, but also enables
merchants to spend less time sorting out technology problems,
leaving them more time to concentrate on the important matters
of running and growing their business.

An ASP means all data and applications are hosted, controlled,
upgraded constantly and maintained at a facility other than the
customers site where data can be accessed securely via the
internet. By outsourcing Small to Medium Enterprise’s (SME’s)
e-commerce solution to an ASP, the need to own costly equipment
is removed and reliability is increased by having access to 24/7
technical expertise. To the person sitting behind the computer,
there is no obvious difference to what they would see on their
screen

There are numerous advantages available for SMEs by outsourcing
to an ASP:

* You no longer have to purchase and maintain your own servers,
hosting room, virus protection, back up’s or security systems
(this is all taken care of by your ASP), this will remove
overheads normally associated with internal IT systems

* An ASP generally offers the option of subscription, as opposed
to purchasing for thousands of dollars for anything decent.

* Financial benefits from the conversion of high-tech capital
intensive expenses into predictable, fully tax-deductible,
monthly pricing plans. This levels out the peaks and troughs of
IT expenditure

* The responsibility of managing the infrastructure is removed
(the ASP assumes full responsibility of the IT system)

* Remote access, network security and high disaster recovery
solutions equal to that required by financial institutions are
just some of the other services offered

The major and most overlooked advantage of using as ASP is the
sheer expense they have gone to in setting up strong
infrastructure and recovery system. In the worst case scenario,
you will generally be back online the same day with all your
site content including orders and products still in your
shopping cart.

There are few downsides to this model. Outsourcing your online
store to a specialist and reputable provider is certainly
something worth investigating, from a cost, efficiency and
security perspective. If all aspects are taken into account, you
will almost certainly find that setting up a shopping cart using
a boxed or non ASP solution is far less cost effective and time
consuming for your business not to mention frustrating!

So where does this leave us? In my opinion, a hosted ecommerce
solution is a better business model if you plan to develop and
market your business for success. The software you choose is
vitally important so make sure you research both free shopping
cart providers and paid ones as the free softwares are really coming
into play since advertising can account for strong revenue these
days if there enough people interested in a product.

Happy hunting.

Tips on Dealing with an Upset Customer

From time-to-time you will come face-to-face with a customer that isn’t happy with your service.

At this point, resolution and customer happiness should become your approach to diffuse the situation. Here are a few tips when dealing with an “upset” customer.

1. It’s not personal.

Though it may seem that the customer is attacking you, remember - ‘it’s not personal.’ The situation is what is at issue. If you take the customers complaint personally, matters are sure to get worse before they get better.

2. It’s your responsibility.

We are all team players and share in the triumphs and failures of customer service. Do not assign blame or pass the customer off to another team member.

3. Listen and design.

Listen closely to the customers’ complaint and repeat the complaint back to the customer. This process will allow you to design a solution to the customers’ complaint.

4. Apologize and Acknowledge.

Apologize for the customers’ inconvenience. Acknowledge and show genuine concern for the customers’ situation.

5. Do not get into a yelling match.

For starters, you’ll lose and your company will lose. When the customers’ temper gets the best of him/her, keep your demeanor calm and purposeful.

6. Offer Options.

The easiest way to appease a customer is to offer options to the customer. When possible allow the customer to pick the solution that they fell is appropriate

7. It’s all about timing.

Time is a very valuable resource to you and your customer. When the solution is agreed upon set a timetable for delivery. If you must leave the customers presence, inform the customer when you will return.

8. Finally, Follow up.

Verify with the customer that the situation was resolved. Apologize for the inconvenience, and offer your service or services in the future.

Are You Doing Well As An Affliate Marketer?

I have been working on the Internet now since December 2004 and I have done all the things one needs to do to earn an income from the use of my computer at home. There are many resources and so many different programmes and opportunities that it amazes me.
Is it any wonder only 5% of people make it on the internet or indeed in any network marketing adventure. There are some key things you need to grasp before you embark on finding that ‘perfect opportunity’ that is going to make you rich!!

Do you know what your strengths are?

Do you know what you are good at?

Do you know what your abilities are in relation to your creative streak?

Are you teachable?

Do you have a strong desire to succeed in this life?

How hungry are you for success?

How important is self employment to you that you will do what it takes to get there?

These are questions you need to answer before you go looking for a Home Based Business on the Internet. If you go to a search engine or to a traffic exchange and simply click on sites all day you will get lost in cyberspace.

Decide what you would like to become involved in for the rest of your life. Can you write good stories? Do you love the health and nutrition industry? Do you love the outdoor life? Do you love Information Technology?

Once you know the answer to all of the above then sit back down at your computer and type into a search engine those words that are relevant to who you are and where you want to go. Don’t get caught up looking at every opportunity because marketing is all about attracting you to look at this or that particular opportunity.

When you find something you like investigate further, call someone, email them and find out:- 1. realistic earning potetnial and 2. will you get upline support and training.

In any business we need to be taught, in life we need to learn skills to get by.

Business is exactly the same. Internet marketing requires a good team ethos and with that success will come.

Ensure, when you find an opportunity that you feel good about it, then commit to it. Get it into your mind that you will give this a go for at least a year through thick or thin.
Persist, be patient, be determined, be teachable, experiment and never give up. Don’t be distracted by another opportunity that looks easier or has a better website!

Stick to your guns and prove to yourself that you have the potential to succeed as a Home Based Business Person.

Colin Thomson works the Internet part time around his family and other work commitments. He has found the opportunities that he is going to work at for a long time and is very happy with his choices.
