The proposed Orange/T-Mobile merger is facing a lot of criticism from consumer groups that are now demanding for a fresh investigation into the impact of the merger on competition in the UK mobile market.

In a letter addressed to the competition commissioner of Brussels, the two groups - Communications Consumer Panel (CCP) and Consumer Focus - have asked the competition authority to carry out an investigation into the matter following the recent comments aired by consumer organization Which?, focussing on the necessity for such an investigation.

The letter draws the attention of authorities to the hotly debated issues of spectrum allocation and the formation of an entity with a huge spectrum in addition to the issue of decline in healthy competition with respect to the expanding 3G technology.
