Does Education Affect Your Poker Game?

The obvious answer to this is, of course education affects you online poker game. You need to know how to play the game, how to employ strategy, and what you should do in a variety of challenging circumstances. Let’s call this your poker education. You need to have the highest possible levels of online online poker education in order to play well.

In our society we are more used to equating education with the standardized academic system. Is there a correlation, then, between academic and poker education? The experts are still out on this question, but findings so far demonstrate that is actually very little correlation between your formal education level and your ability to play poker well. If you want to succeed in the poker world you need to know a large selection of pivotal things, but these are not the type of things that are typically taught in classrooms. For example, have you ever seen a formal class on how to recognize a bluff? You need to gain your poker education for applicable guidebooks and online sites, which everyone has access to equally.

There is also a lot to be said about the role of practicing when it comes down to poker. No one plays well their first time, even if they have spent months studying. You need to practice to get the feel of the game and figure out how to react; things which have nothing to do with academic training.

Limping with Medium Pocket Pairs

We have all been stuck in a bind with a medium valued pocket pair and limited options. In this situation, you either need to bluff and raise or limp in. I am a fan of the limping in strategy with pocket pairs, where you bet just enough to stay in the online poker game. You don’t raise, your don’t draw attention to yourself, and you don’t act overly confident. The whole theory is to skirt under the radar of the other players so they do not notice that you do not have an amazing hand. That way, the other players will simply think that you are an overall conservative player and not try to mess with you. They will think that you have a decent hand, and are just holding out until the showdown. They may even be impressed by your obvious poker knowledge and strategic actions.

The thing about medium pocket pairs is that they have the potential to be great hands later on in the poker game. Limping in gives you the option to bet big later when you actually have something worth your while in your hand. You conserve money in the beginning, but can raise the value of the pot later. It really is the best of all possible worlds.

Hand Names

In Texas Hold ‘Em poker, each player is dealt two starting cards. And though the cards come out randomly, there are certain combinations of cards that are known by a nickname, which you’ll often hear poker players and commentators use.

Here’s a few colorful names given to powerful poker hands:

* Pocket Rockets or Bullets - an obvious choice for pocket Aces.

* Big Slick - an Ace with a King, a powerful starting hand.

* Cowboys - pocket Kings.

* Ajax - an Ace with a Jack

* Broadway - a straight that goes from ten up to the Ace.

* Dead Man’s Hand - an Ace with an 8, the infamous hand supposedly held by an American frontier character who was shot in the back while holding these cards.

* Ducks - a pair of twos.

* Doyle Brunson - a 10 with a 2, the hand Brunson won the WSOP with two times.

* Wheel - a straight from the Ace to 5.

* Steel Wheel - the Ace-5 straight flush.

* Sailboats - pocket fours because of their resemble to a sailboat silhouette.

* Snowmen - a pair of eights.

* A Royal - the highest straight flush possible, from ten to Ace, all the same suit.

* Crabs - a pair of threes.

* Wired pair - when a player is holding a pocket pair rather than just pairing the board.

Big Stack Power

Being the big stack in a online poker tournament is every player’s goal. The biggest stack at the online poker table has the most chips and the most power. Those chips should be wielded like weapons to decimate and eliminate your opponents. A big stack has the power to end another poker online player’s tournament by putting out the all-in bet. It is the moment players dread - when they have a good starter or drawing hand - and facing the all-in bet that can end their tournament. When you are the big stack at the table, you can leverage this power. This does not mean you should put out aggressive raises against every limper into the pot. You don’t want to diminish your stack’s power by leaking off chips. However, having a big stack allows you to siphon off other players’ chips by raising when there are several limpers who bet ahead of you. Many will fold to the big stack, leaving dead money in the pot. Most likely you’ll go heads-up against one opponent and it could be a coin toss. Use your big stack to intimidate your opponents, especially when you are in late position or betting ahead of tight players. When you are going to enter a pot with a decent hand, bet out a big raise to make everyone fold or to isolate a single player for heads-up play.

The Worst Hand in Poker

In Texas Hold ‘Em poker, the worst possible poker online pocket cards to get are 7-2 off suit. These two cards are considered the worst starting hand in poker because the 2 is the lowest ranked card in the deck, and even if you hit a pair on the flop, it’s probably the lowest pair. The seven is also lower than half the deck, and even if it pairs, will most likely be dominated by a bigger pair. The combination of 7-2 cannot complete to a straight either. The two cards have very little potential to give a player anything to bet. Because it’s considered the worst hand in poker online, players typically fold it pre-flop rather than waste any chips betting the hand. Its reputation actually saves chips for the player who receive it.

In the big scheme of things, the 7-2 is probably not the worst hand in terms of chips lost on it. Instead, hands like Ace Queen or King Queen, which look strong pre-flop, and which players routinely will bet, probably lose more chips for players than the lowly hands, like 7-2, that are routinely folded. It is important to remember that a drawing hand considered a powerful starter, can quickly lose its strength once the flop comes out. More bank rolls have been decimated with unpaired face cards and Aces than by the 7-2. Don’t let yourself get stuck with a drawing hand after the flop fails to connect with it. If a bet comes out, fold and wait for a better opportunity to fire your chips at the pot.

Wasting Time at a Casino

While there are many advantages to playing poker in a brick and mortar casino, it is an undeniable fact that you actually end up wasting a lot of time at your favorite poker casino. Putting aside the slower paced poker games with physical cards and chips, there are tons of tiny details that eat up valuable poker time. For example, have you ever considered the time you take to find a parking space as part of your poker time? Sure, you are not at the table, but your time behind the wheel cuts into the total amount of time you can spend sitting at the felt. How about the time that it takes you to purchase and change chips? You actually cannot play without them, but the long lines can make you feel like you are wasting time for no reason. One way to avoid wasting time unnecessarily at the poker casino is to go at off peak times. If you go when there are fewer crowds, you will not find yourself at the end of long lines. You won’t have to spend precious moments waiting for anything. The chip line will be less, you will find a parking space, and won’t have to wait for a seat at the food court. You can spend more time playing poker, and isn’t that what we all want?

New Poker Casino in Liverpool

Good news for all you poker players and other gamblers who may live near or regularly travel Liverpool, famed home of The Beatles. As reported by The Liverpool Daily Post: A glitzy Monte Carlo-style poker online casino could rejuvenate the fortunes of Liverpool’s former State ballroom. City bar boss Peter Lee wants to attract an up-market clientele to the venue that closed in the mid-90s, after the then nightclub saw a spate of violent incidents including a shooting and firebombings. City magistrates threw out his original application for a license last year, after opposition from city rivals, but now he is gambling on landing an appeal. The owner of the Metro bar says his new proposals for a radically different type of gaming house will invalidate previous objections, according to the newspaper. The renovated venue will be over- 21s only, have a strict dress code and other attractions such as a fine dining restaurant, it is reported.

I do enjoy a healthy mix of casino playing and online poker when I play. I do like the convenience of online poker, I can play without ever having to leave my house, but sometimes it is fun and exhilarating to sit down at an actual table and bang the felt. Hopefully, with laws against online poker being shot down and more casinos like this one being built, we can all have a lot more poker in our lives.

Calming down with Big Pairs in Poker

The natural tendency when dealt big pairs like pocket queens or jacks, or even kings and aces, is to ram and jam the pot. That is: most players, when dealt a large hand, act the same way most every time: they raise and represent that poker hand. And while for the most part, across the board and over time, this is still a profitable reaction, there is something to be said in the way of changing gears to veil your holdings that can particularly in the short term sometimes increase your draw.

After all: how many times have you seen a poker player go broke in situations like KK vs AA or KK vs QQ all in preflop, where in the end they are really only holding one pair?

One way I sometimes like to think about big pairs is to play them the same way I play medium or small pairs: I keep it cheap, and wait to flop a monster, or to trap my opponent into hanging himself. While slowplaying can cost you if you aren’t prepared to let go at the right time, disguising your initial holding and then flopping the real monster can be even more profitable than jamming and then trying to lure your opponent into giving up his poker chips despite the fact that you’ve been telling them all the way what you had.

Running from an Empty Nest

In popular culture, the years between 51 and 65 are considered the empty nest years. During this time in your life, your children have moved out of the house to start their own lives, but are still too young to be bringing grandchildren over to visit. With no child rearing responsibilities to take up their time, more and more empty nesters are spending their days at the poker table.

In fact, casino attendance from this age bracket is at an all time high. It is reported that approximately 29% of all casino players fall between the ages of 51 to 65. When you look at the demographics of players in general, this age bracket has the highest percentage of players than any other defined age group.

What does it mean to run to the casino from an empty nest? Well, given the modern obsession with poker and increasing casino attendance overall, you may simply be running to a group of likeminded individuals in your age bracket. The fellowship at the poker table is the modern equivalent of shuffleboard or bridge nights for providing empty nesters with social functions to fill up their time. Casinos foster fellowship between their attendees by providing areas to eat and chat. If you are more of an online player, you can find the fellowship you crave through forums and chat functions.

Nothing Beats the Taste of Chocolate Wedding Favors

Some say that after jewels, chocolate is most appreciated gift. One thing is for sure, many people love chocolate, and it is definitely a classy and wedding material. Whoever chooses chocolate wedding favors makes a good statement that is elegant and also caring for their guests. There are so many different chocolate options and, trust me, each one of them works. You can be original with the look and the shape, the flavor and packaging, but bottom line, your guests will go for the taste, and that is when you truly gain their recognition.

Chocolate wedding favors have another big advantage, which is the one that you don’t need to necessarily have the chocolate themed with the rest of the decoration, chocolate is indeed a great stand alone item, which always gets its attention among people. Chocolate, in some mystique sort of way, has its own magnetism and that shows very well, especially in a special occasion such as a wedding. Now, often you might have the problem to run out your chocolate wedding favors, so be careful to load up enough, because people will seek for them until the end. Of course, if you are really generous, think that most of your guests will want to keep some as a memory… or take it at home with them.
